Stony Brook NAIS roundup
Unofficial news
I let y’all in on it first, but now that the SBU Native American and Indigenous Studies initiative is public, I thought I’d collect a few of the stories that have come out recently. - From SBU: SBU Launches Native American and Indigenous Studies Initiative
- Newsday: Stony Brook University to offer new minor in Native American and Indigenous Peoples Studies
- Village Times Herald: SBU names Pierce Native American Studies director, plans new hires
- Hyperallergic: New York School Will Offer Minor in Native American and Indigenous Studies

ALSOOOO, we still have a Job Ad open on Interfolio (if you want to apply, or know someone would might, please pass this along).
There is still a lot to do. We have formed a steering committee comprised of Indigenous community leaders and faculty, an advisory board, a job search committee, and a number of other administrative things. We have to iron out some of the curriculum still, but for now, I’m happy to say that we have taken some really important strides, and are poised to continue the momentum into the spring semester. I know I need a bit of a break, and it will come soon, but I’m grateful, too, for all the conversations I’ve been able to have with people both inside SBU and outside of it.
