Fall updates (readings, talks, and conferences)

Long time no see, babes.

I have been under an administrative rock, well maybe not under so much as pushing it up and watching it roll back down. If Sisyphus were Indian... But it's good. Lots of Native Studies business, lots of service, lots of teaching, but not a lot of writing. [sigh]

And while I won't call it a tour, I am doing some significant travel over the next few weeks to give talks and attend conferences. I'll list them below. Say hi, listen in, or share with a friend who is there or thereabouts.

  1. Today!!! Friday October 9—Overflow Radio (12-6pm CST, Online and in person, but I'll be online). My part is from 3-4pm CST/4-5pm EST. I'm going to be reading an excerpt from my memoir work-in-progress. I have only shared part of this publicly once, so it is going to be a little nervy, but hopefully good. Orchestrated by Emily Johnson and held in person at the Northrop at the University of Minnesota, people are gathering on blankets around old-school radios to listen and be in community. The project transmits the readings live, so you can also listen from anywhere. It's a really amazing lineup!
  2. October 16—Queer Kinship: Migrations, Diasporas, Communities, University of Toronto. I'm giving a keynote titled Is This Body Bodying?, which will be followed by comments from Kai Recollet. The talk is centered on the "Body" chapter of Speculative Relations, but I'm also going to be reflecting on what queerness and kinship can and can't do for Native studies, and then try to figure out what a body is (I won't, and that's the point).
  3. October 21-25—American Studies Association, Chicago. I'll be on a panel to celebrate Olga Rodríguez-Ulloa's new book Sadistic Cholas: Transfeminist Provocations in Contemporary Peru, which is a real banger. I'm also delighted that Speculative Relations received an honorable mention for the 2026 John Hope Franklin Prize, so it will be a festive, fleshy moment to share.
  4. October 29-30—Grammar of Reparation Symposium, The Research Center for Material Culture, Wereldmuseum, Amsterdam. I have never been to Amsterdam, so I'm really excited about this. But also nervous. But also, maybe I'm just going to talk about "Repair" and try to sort out how that is not the same as reparation. Hopefully it makes sense.
  5. November 5—RISD Humanities Forum. I'll be delivering a keynote for the RISD Humanities Forum and spending some time in conversation with students and artists. This is where I think I'm going to talk about the method of speculation, and art more directly. And I'll hope this one goes over well with the art folks.

A LOT GOING ON

But I am grateful for these invitations and the opportunity to learn from more people in more places. And maybe, somewhere along the way, I'll find a little time to write something new. Or at least to figure out what it is I've been trying to say.
