Upcoming events and recordings (including a real book club!)

Hi dears,

I'm writing to share a few events of interest coming up:

Today, April 30, 4pm Eastern/3pm Central. University of Texas at San Antonio's Urban Bird Project is hosting me for a ZOOM ONLY book talk.

Thursday, May 7, 7-9pm Eastern: Forge Project is hosting a conversation at Performance Space NY as part of its Open Room residency. I'll be moderating the conversation between writers and cohort members Adrienne Keene and Angélica María Cuevas on working across genres, languages, and geographical contexts, from personal histories of displacement on Cherokee Nation to current fights for territorial sovereignty in the Amazon. The writers will also discuss how they engage with and hold themselves accountable to these stories, and the role art plays in mobilizing narratives beyond cultural spaces and into broader political arenas. If you're around NYC, you can RSVP here.

Friday, May 15, 6-9pm Eastern: I'll be participating in an actual, bonafide book club! Hosted by Ma's House on the Shinnecock Nation Reservation, with Zoom option. See below.

Join us at Ma’s House for an evening of reflection, reciprocity, and radical imagination. We are honored to welcome author Joseph M. Pierce (Cherokee Nation) to discuss his transformative new work, Speculative Relations: Indigenous Worlding and Repair. This gathering invites us to move beyond anthropological definitions of Indigeneity and instead explore how art, kinship, and “speculation” can repair the damages of colonialism and breathe life into our future imaginaries.

Event Details Date: Friday, May 15th Time: 6:00 pm – 9:00 pm Location: In-Person at Ma’s House & Online (Hybrid) Special Offer: The first 15 people to RSVP will receive a free softcover copy of Speculative Relations!

He is a leading voice at the intersection of Indigenous, queer, and cultural studies, dedicated to the practice of living in good relations. RSVP Information As we gather in the spirit of care and community, space for the in-person session is limited. Register early to secure your attendance and your chance to receive a free copy of the book. ZOOM OPTION: https://us02web.zoom.us/meeting/register/Y3pzwO9xT1m4E7wEOJWtMg

Come prepared to engage with “a multifaceted and dynamic mapping of relational possibilities.”
